Town Facilities
Towns provide employment and protection for travelers as well as opportunities to store goods safely and craft ammo and gear to allow you to continue exploring.
Town Overview:
Upgrading the main structure should be a priority for all towns.
- The higher the main structure, the more sectors your town controls. This allows you to attract residents and food from shacks and farms in those sectors. You will need these residents to work in your town and the farms will help feed them.
- Any ruins in your area of control cost 1 stamina less to salvage for any gang members that control that town.
- It is impossible to upgrade facilities like the Workshop higher than the town level.
- Town level directly effects the level of Missions and Jobs visitors can do. High level Missions_and_Jobs give more xp and bc and will attract more players to your town.
- The bigger the town/more facilities, you higher the upkeep costs. Level 5 towns can cost over 2300bc per week.
If you are in the gang that owns the town, you will see important details about the town at the top. You can see housing space available for residents, Employment of those residents, Food availability and Power usage. Clicking on these numbers will give you additional information. Powering Your Town becomes more difficult as you continue to build.
The Connections button will allow you to ship off residents to help in lumbermills or quarries. Store Food will allow you to manually add food from your inventory to keep the town fed. View Population will show you temporary visitors and permanent residents. Close Gates will lock out all non-gang members. Be careful with closing gates as this will get you kicked off the Starter Town list.
The Gear button will allow you to upgrade or downgrade the town main structure or modify the town settings like crafting tax, costs for private storage and garages.
VERY IMPORTANT: This is also where you can pay upkeep and stash bottlecaps to automatically pay upkeep so your town doesn't go feral.
Notice Board:
This is where you find all the Missions and Jobs the town has to offer. If the town runs out of food, people or power, this function will become disabled.
The Missions and Jobs available are dependent on the level of the town and the theme of the area around it. Towns in Anarchy sectors will give missions to kill bandits. Civilized areas will give medicine deliveries, construction and courier missions/jobs. Wilderness will give hunters the opportunity to Kill Feral Dogs and Collect 3 Meat for experience and bottlecaps.
Some Missions and Jobs (like Clear Rubble and Deliver Medicine) will allow you to change the Theme (Civilization, Anarchy, Wilderness, etc) in the town sector and the sectors around it. This is a how you can change the world and push it in the direction you'd like.
Build New:
Clicking this button is how you start building all these new facilities.
There are additional buildings separate from your town like the Lumbermill, Solar Farm and others that go thru a different process using the Building Structures process.
List of all structures and their resources costs available here.
Bar:
Building a bar is the easy way to get mercs to recruit. You will see level 1 mercs start to show up when you build Bar1, Level 3 at Bar 3 and Level 5 at Bar 5. It will take at least 24 hours between building/upgrading the Bar and seeing the appropriate mercs.
You can preview the mercs skills and combat abilities before you hire them. Level 1 mercs are 100/week, level 3 are 300/week and level 5 mercs are 800/week.
Shop:
The Shop is your place for buying new gear, selling off gear you don't need or putting in an order for items other players might bring in.
- Buying goods is simple enough. Click on Shop, look thru for something you need, click Buy, tell it how many of that type you want and then Buy to finish up.
- The Sell tab is if you have items on you you want to quickly sell to the shop. If there is an offer (from another player) for that item, you can immediate sell the item and collect your bottlecaps.
- Selling your goods can be done by clicking Offer across the top. Find the item you want to sell and click the Offer button to the right of it. Select the Quantity of those items you want to sell, enter the Price for EACH of these items you wish to sell then click Offer again. Your item will sit in shop for a month until someone buys it. You will pay a tax set by the town owner for each item based on the value of that item. If your item sells, the bottlecaps get dropped straight into your account even if you aren't in town. If your item doesn't sell it will get dropped into your Private Storage in that town. If you do not have Private Storage, the items might get trashed so be careful.
- The last option is to Order items. If you need 300 wood or need a new Shotgun, you click Order across the top, type in the EXACT NAME of that item, the quantity of them you want, the price you are willing to pay for each and then Order. The Durability questions are for full items like a Shotgun. If you pick "any", your Order will buy any Shotgun even if it is beat up. If you only want perfectly fixed items, select "full".
Warehouse:
The Warehouse is for use by your Gang and Faction only. Nonmembers cannot see items in your warehouse or take from the warehouse. The amount of gear you can store is based on the level of the warehouse so upgrade it if you need more space. When you store items in your warehouse, you can decide to make them available to your gang only (if it is your town) or if your gang and the rest of the Faction can pull them out by selecting Faction from the drop down.
Private Storage:
Private storage is exactly that. Private. Only that character can see or take items in/out of your Private Storage. You pay monthly for it. It is essential for all merchants to have Private Storage so unsold items can fall into storage instead of the trash.
Garage:
The Garage is for use by your Gang and Faction only. Nonmembers cannot see vehicles in your garage or take from the garage. The garage space is based on the level of the garage so upgrade it if you need space for more vehicles. When you store vehicles in your garage, you can decide to make them available to your gang only (if it is your town) or if your gang and the rest of the Faction can pull them out by selecting Faction from the drop down.
Private Garage:
The Private Garage is for your personal use only. Only that character can see or take items in/out of your Private Storage. You pay monthly for it. It is essential for all merchants selling a vehicle to have Private Garage so unsold vehicles can fall into your garage instead of the trash.
Workshop/Factory:
A town becomes a big attraction when you open up a Workshop. Crafters make use of it to make new items and people will come from all around to craft and buy the items crafted. More information on this can be found under Craft. The town charges a tax on each item crafted so keep an eye on how much you are spending as you craft and factor it into the prices you charge for items you sell. These taxes are set at different percentages for each town.
Electric Generator:
As your town grows, it will need electricity to support advanced facilities like the Workshop. The Electric Generator in one option. It runs on Fuel and the higher the generator level, the more power it provides and the more fuel it uses. At level 1 it provides 1 power and uses 3 fuel per 8 hours. At level 2 it provides 2 power and goes to 6 fuel per 8 hours. At level 3 it provides 3 power and uses 9 fuel per 8 hours.
More information available at Powering_Your_Town.
Defense:
If you want to keep your town safe from Boss attacks and player bandits taking over your town and raiding your warehouse, you need to keep your Defenses up. These are relatively cheap upgrades and absolutely worth it. EVERY time you upgrade your Structure you should also upgrade Defense.
Farm:
Increase food production to keep your residents fed. Can do the farm Job to collect grain to make bread.
Housing:
Add on additional housing so you can attract more residents.
Hunter Shack:
The hunting shack helps bring in more food to keep your residents fed.
Guard Barracks:
Guard Barracks will permanently prevent any PvP within your town territory. The only way to fight with another player within a guarded area is if you have a war declared.
It will also help remove any Anarchy theme in your town's area of control.
